Merchant River House

375 S End Ave New York, NY 10280

I was searching for a restaurant in the city that had a beautiful view and I am glad that I came across Merchant River House!

I made a reservation a day ahead for a weekday around 4pm. This was a good time to come since the restaurant wasn't packed. Although it was a little hard to find at first, the view at Merchant's River House is certainly worth the walk.

I was slightly confused about where to enter the restaurant and which staff member to speak with. I entered through the back and was advised to walk through the restaurant to find the host. It still was a bit confusing because there were many staff members around but I eventually found the host- who was very friendly and sat me immediately. They were also kind about the fact that my guest was running a little late.

FOOD & DRINKS RATINGS:

*Spinach & Artichoke Dip served w/ Pita Chips: 5/5.

*Caesar Salad- (romaine hearts, parmesan, croutons, caesar dressing): 4/5.

*Hanger Steak- (roasted garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, choice: bearnaise, green peppercorn, màitre d'hôtel butter): 4/5.

*Crumble Top Apple Pie- (granny smith apples, cinnamon crumbs, vanilla ice cream) 4/5.

Margarita- (cazadores reposado, house blended orange liqueurs, lime, agave, chili salt rim): 4/5.

Spiked Lemonade- (we requested tequila and mango to be added): 5/5.

To start off, I ordered a Margarita and the Spinach & Artichoke Dip (served w/ pita chips). I was slightly bummed that they did not have the Avocado Fries available, but it worked out because the Spinach & Artichoke Dip was definitely a 5/5! The dip was packed with hot cheese and arrived with beautiful Parmesan shavings on top. What made this appetizer even better was the pita bread that was seasoned, crisp and had a fluffy interior. HIGHLY recommend!

For the meals, I went with the Caesar Salad (romaine hearts, parmesan, croutons, Caesar dressing) and my boyfriend ordered the Hanger Steak (served w/ grilled asparagus and màitre d'hôtel butter) with a side of fries instead of the usual garlic mashed potatoes.

My Caesar salad was pretty good and I was happy that it came with plenty of that shaved Parmesan that was also on the spinach dip. The lettuce was crisp, the croutons were crunchy and flavorful and there was the perfect amount of dressing. A nice serving if you're looking for something a little lighter to eat! As for the Hanger Steak, my boyfriend said the steak was tender and the fries were nicely seasoned and crispy. I took his asparagus which was also seasoned well and fresh!

Lastly, we decided to order a dessert and went with the Crumble Top Apple Pie (granny smith apples, cinnamon crumbs, vanilla ice cream). The pie came out warm with caramelized apples and a delicious crumble that complimented them. We were a little disappointed that it came out with chocolate ice cream, instead of vanilla, but it was still pretty good nevertheless!

All in all, Merchant River House offered friendly & attentive service, beautiful views of the Hudson and delicious food. Would definitely recommend making a reservation if you're looking for a solid place in the city!
