Favela Cubana
543 LaGuardia Pl New York, NY 10012
I came across Favela Cubana on Yelp whilst looking for great brunch spots in the city and I am so happy that I stopped by!
My boyfriend and I made a reservation for 2:30pm and were immediately seated upon arrival. They offer patio seating and indoor dining, but we ended up choosing indoor since the patio was a little crowded.
The staff were all wearing masks and were very friendly! Our waitress was very fun and attentive to our table. We decided to go with the Bottomless Brunch for $25.95 per person and try most of the drinks so we could figure out our favorite. The Bottomless Brunch is 90 minutes once you get your first drink, and I liked that they provided the timeframe on our table so we knew how much time we had left to put in our drink orders.
We ordered the following drinks throughout our entire 90 minutes:
Caipirinha- 4/5; very strong but delicious!
Peach Bellini- 4/5; decent Bellini with the right amount of alcohol.
Margarita- 4/5; great tasting classic Margarita with salted rim.
Sparkling Mojito- 5/5; definitely our favorite drink! We ordered it twice because it was the perfect drink to put with our meals!
For a Starter, we ordered Empanadas to share. We were able to order one Beef Picadillo & one Veggie Asiago- which came with Favela Sauce. The empanadas were DELICIOUS and the sauces on the side were a great addition. My personal favorite was the red-ish sauce because it had great flavor and spice! The only downside is that we only got two empanadas for the price of $10, but they're definitely still worth ordering though!
For my main meal, I decided to go for the Cubancheros (Crispy Tortilla, Black Bean Salsa, Over Easy Eggs, Chipotle Lime Sauce w/ Yucca Fries). Not only were the eggs perfectly cooked & runny, there was a ton of flavor that blended well together! The yucca fries were also good and paired well with the sauce I was given.
My boyfriend ordered the Steak and Eggs (Grilled Hanger Steak, Two Eggs any style, Chimichuri, Baby Arugula w/ Yucca Fries) and a side of Herb Fries and told me that everything was really good. He is pretty picky so I was happy that he enjoyed his meal, as well!
Lastly, we ordered the Tres Leches because I heard great things about it in reviews. It was packed with flavor and simply delicious. Definitely sweet but not too sweet!
I will definitely be back whenever I'm in the area and in need of a reliable Brunch spot!
